This is a very common question in our line of work: are vehicles insured when they are shipped by an auto shipping carrier? The answer, in a nutshell, is yes – all auto transport companies are required to carry a federally-mandated minimum amount of cargo insurance that covers every single vehicle on their rig at any given time, whether it’s a small two-car hauler to a massive interstate ten-car hauler with major hydraulic systems on the back. Insurance is quite important and what’s even better is that your vehicle will be inspected for damages both before it’s loaded and after it’s unloaded from the carrier. This makes it even easier for auto transport insurance companies to make the right determination regarding your vehicle and if damage is present and repairs – and the covering of said repair costs – is needed. Insurance is rarely needed, of course, because few vehicles are damaged during transport, but it’s still nice to have.
